88 MPH Concert Review, June 25th, K & Q Bar Cheonan The Cheonan Massive was out of its element on Friday June 25th. Instead of assembling at Woolly & Boolly, everyone was at K & Q, and for good reason. Renee was saying farewell to Korea, and Alan âThe Bodyâ, was celebrating his . . .well letâs just say birthday and leave it at that. Presiding over this party was none other than the greatest band ever to set foot on a stage in Cheonan, 88 MPH. After their first successful appearance at the Batchelorette party, followed by an open air performance at the wedding of Roy and Jeong Ju, the band was ready to make itâs biggest appearance yet. Fronted by Eoin, alias the Wicklow Wizard, Simon âIâm just waiting for Aliens Vs. Predator to openâ, and Mike âIâm a closet Yankees fanâ, they found themselves in front of an already eager crowd. The set opened with âCalifornia Starsâ, a fan favorite, with Eoin acting like a confident, but not egotistical lead singer. With Simon and Mike flanking him on either side the band looked relaxed and casual. A few songs later found the boys tackling the Cure with a solid rendition of âFriday Iâm in Loveâ, which drew cheers from an 80âs music audience. âHalf the World Awayâ, and âPink Triangleâ were also good performances by a band that knows itâs all about the music, and not cheesy stage theatrics. As always âPocahontasâ with its catchy chorus, found this writer singing along with the band. One suspects I wasnât the only one. The band also did a good job with Pink Floydâs âWish You Were Hereâ, which echoed the sentiments of those Massive members no longer with us. The set came to an end with âSweet Janeâ, which left the crowd in a feel good mood, and eager for the next performance. The band also increased itâs audience base with a lot of new faces ready to hear the newest musical force in Cheonan. A spirited night, filled with well wishes and goodbyes was highlighted by another terrific performance by 88 MPH. Hereâs hoping they get the Zed Rock gig so they can spread their music to an even bigger audience. -Bill Mulligan
